Radiation and Long-Term Space Flight

Author: Lance Winslow

If mankind is to safely travel too and from other nearby Planets like Mars and eventually far beyond, then a solution to the radiation problem must be found. It would be nice to simply have a force field to delete the near spacecraft radiation, but that may not be so easy as it would draw significant energies, which might be in limited supply.

There are a number of theories being floated around on how to go about this dilemma; one recent theory in an online think tank was to re-align the X-Ray and Gamma Rays coming towards the space craft and send them into a spiral and fly thru the center. How? Pulse Laser? This was one solution countering the idea of a energy hogging force field, as that maybe energy inefficient or highly unlikely.

One member of the think tank stated; Indeed if we re-align them into a spiral and the once space craft flies thru allow them to re-unite in an imploding vortex and use that for propulsion behind you?

Another recent idea floated in the online think tank was a special coating, which was reactive with the radiation on skin of the Spacecraft. The coating would collect it to use the radiation for power without hurting occupants? Perhaps heat generator. Or conversion to an acoustic transducer to excite molecules in an enclosure to produce energy or heat, generate electric power to charge battery system? Of course these are just a few of the many ideas being floated around out there, as they are in-progress abstract hypothetical thoughts, but perhaps may hold a potentially important piece of the puzzle. Consider this in 2006.
